The following is a selection of some of the Club’s past events. Events are a very important part of the Club’s activities since they help to further its conservation activities by raising its overall profile and are the ideal way for members to get together, discuss their common interests and enjoy themselves.

Lecture by Sir Arnold Wolfendale
Saturday 24th November 2012

The 1805 Club and the London Corinthian Sailing Club organised a lecture by Professor Sir Arnold Wolfendale BSc, PhD, DSc(Hon Caus) FInstP, CPhys, FRAS, FNA, For Assoc RSSA, FRS – Astronmer Royal from 1991 to 1995.

The lecture was entitled

Captain William Bligh, RN, FRS – Maligned but Magnificent

Why did the Mutiny on the Bounty occur? How did Bligh manage his remarkable feat of navigation in an open boat? Finally, why was this remarkable man so vilified?

Trafalgar Day Wreath Laying Ceremony
Monday 22nd October 2012

This year the Wreath Laying Ceremony was held at St Paul’s Cathedral on Monday 22nd October 2012.

Trafalgar Night Dinner
Saturday 20th October 2012

The annual Trafalgar Night Dinner was once again at Newhouse, Wiltshire. The evening included a talk on The Battle of the Nile by Mike Ellis, former British Defence Attache to Sweden, and the traditional fireworks display.

Conservation Study Day
Thursday 27th September 2012

A Conservation Study Day was organised in association with the World Monuments Fund (WMF) at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.

Visit to the House of Lords and House of Commons
Tuesday 11th September 2012

A visit was organised to the House of Lords and House of Commons, House of Parliament, Parliament Square, Westminster. This was a limited number event with no extra guests admitted.

This was a full day event with visits arranged to the Jewel Tower and the Old Admiralty Boardroom.

Visit to Penn House
Saturday 8th September 2012

Another visit and tour of Penn House, home of Earl Howe, was organised. Earl Howe is the direct descendant of Admiral of the Fleet Earl Howe, whom Nelson so greatly admired.

AGM, Members’ Day and Cecil Isaacson Memorial Lecture
Saturday 5th May 2012

The AGM, Members’ Day and Cecil Isaacson Memorial Lecture this year (given by Dr. John Dacam entitled Wanton Punishment in the Royal Navy during the French Wars), were held at the University of Greenwich Old Royal Naval College.
