Issue 24.06 December 2024

5 of 6 June 2023 The 1805 Dispatches #23.03 Trafalgar Way Talks We continue to offer free talks telling The Trafalgar Way Story within reasonable travelling distance of Salisbury, UK. Our former Director of The Trafalgar Way, Kathy Brown, volunteers to give lively illustrated talks to any interested audience – in exchange for a donation to The 1805 Club, a contribution to travel expenses if possible, and the opportunity to fundraise by selling Club publications on the night. On May 18th 2023 Frome Royal Naval Association hosted one of these talks, arranged by their branch chairman, 1805 Club member Nick Reader. The audience included several local residents who had seen publicity about the event, and it therefore served as a good recruitment opportunity both for the RNA and The 1805 Club! From funds raised via voluntary entrance fees and the raffle, the talk generated £46.10 for The 1805 Club, plus an additional £135 from sales of The Official Storymap of The Trafalgar Way. You can purchase this fascinating and informative document online via The 1805 Club Shop (www.1805club/org/shop) or The Trafalgar Way website (www.thetrafalgarway.org). It makes a great gift for history lovers! Forthcoming talks: Blandford Forum Museum - November 2023 The next date currently scheduled for a talk about the Trafalgar Way is November 24th 2023. Location: Blandford Forum Museum, Blandford, Dorset, UK This event will be ticketed - £5 for Museum and 1805 Club members, £8 to members of the public. We are also discussing with the Museum the possibility of having a permanent exhibit about The Trafalgar Way, since it passes directly through the historic Dorset town! A missing plaque Are you considering a plaque-to-plaque journey along the route of The Trafalgar Way (see www. thetrafalgarway.org/the-trafalgar-way-map)? Please be aware that the plaque at The Salutation Inn, Hammersmith is currently missing. The 1805 Club are in discussions with pub company, Fuller's, to fund a replacement - we could recommend you 'watch this space' but staring at a blank piece of wall could be a little dull! We're hoping to site the replacement plaque in a new location outside the building this time - however this may not be possible due to the decorative nature of the pub's exterior. More news to follow when we have it. The Salts and their Pickle Tour, November 2023 Save the dates! We are delighted to announce that fantastic folk and shanty band The Salts (https://www. thesalts.co.uk/) will be performing a series of gigs along The Trafalgar Way this autumn. The performances will be held at Falmouth, Exeter, Blandford and London from 3rd to 6th November - proper 'Pickle Season'. More details will be announced soon, along with links for purchasing tickets. In addition to the four gigs, one each evening, the Band will be stopping off at many of The Trafalgar Way plaques and playing in public to attract donations for The 1805 Club and Jubilee Sailing Trust. This promises to be an amazing bit of publicity for all three parties as well as raising valuable funds to help us in our campaigns and projects. Your support in attending the gigs and public appearances, as well as helping publicise them in locations along The Trafalgar Way will be much appreciated in due course! NEVER FORGET THE TRAFALGAR WAY!
