There is at least one nine-letter word to be found. 25 = Average; 40 = Good; 50 = Amazing! Answers on last page For anyone who has been asleep, or for anyone new to this newsletter. The weekend of Friday 16 June and Saturday 17 June is very special to The 1805 Club, the Milford on Sea Historical Record Society, the City of Portsmouth and the nation. Here is a link to the reminder and application form sent to all Club members: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeueRn9dHtLOAqwtjvza29DP5QLbbompx2EhBBf4d5rfOpdw/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0 After many years as valued members of The 1805 Club, serving in a variety of administrative roles, two Council members have independently decided that they want to try enjoying Club membership without the responsibility of office, for a while. ‘For a while’ is used because it is suspected that they both may find they miss the hurlyburly and seek to take on a role again in the future – but this is only the Editor’s opinion. Geraint Day is currently Vice Chair and Stephen Howarth is currently Secretary of The 1805 Club, and neither are standing for re-election at this year’s AGM on 17 June. Consequently, Members of the Club will be circulated with full details of the job descriptions and a request that they put themselves forward for election at the AGM. Not long to think about it, and anyone who has no idea what the jobs would involve are advised: Don’t Even Think About It! Despite the above flippant remark, this is a rare opportunity for someone to take on these serious undertakings, which can be very rewarding for anyone who shares the interests and aims of the Club. But it is necessary that anybody offering to take on either role should have the time and energy to carry them out. It is hoped that it will prove unnecessary to such hold elections often. It is required that office holders will present themselves for re-election each year. Holders of both offices will also be a trustee of the Club in its Charitable Incorporated Organ-isation (CIO) status. The roles are unremunerated (as are all trustee positions per se) and do not feel georaphically challenged, as all Council Meetings and most Committee Meetings are held on Zoom, unless face-toface is convenient and preferable. As an indication of the principal duties (which will be circulated in full soon, by the Membership Secretary), an edited brief summary follows: Vice Chair of The 1805 Club The Vice Chair is required to attend Council meetings and deputise for the Chairman, and to attend some committee meetings, respond to enquiries about the Club and generally be a senior representative of the Club as the opportunities arise. To provide details for the Annual Report to the Charity Commission of England and Wales, and to the AGM. Secretary of The 1805 Club (This is probably the senior administrative role on Club Council (the current Chairman calls the Secretary his Chief of Staff)). The Secretary is required to organise the calendar of two-monthly Council meetings and attend them, when he/she will assist the Chair in keeping the meeting on track, take minutes, perhaps with an assistant recorder, and circulate the minutes. To organise the AGM, including booking the venue, and to work with the Events Committee and help them to book venues/events, etc. To hold official Club stationery and Club documents, including digital material, and to coordinate with the Club archivist. To provide details for the Annual Report to the Charity Commission of Engalnd and Wales and to the AGM. Generally the Secretary will liaise between Council and Club stakeholders (President, VPs, etc.) and external bodies related to Club activities. JOB VACANCIES
