Friday 16 June 2023

We are very happy indeed to invite all Members and their guests to attend the Unveiling of our Memorial (created in close and friendly collaboration with the Milford-on-Sea Historic Records Society) to Admiral the Honourable Sir William Cornwallis, taking place on the morning of Friday 16 June 2023.

That evening, commencing at 1900, there will be a ‘Semi-Formal Dinner’ in the Nelson Lounge of the Royal Maritime Club, Portsmouth (RMC): a smart casual three-course dinner with wine, offering another enjoyable social occasion for Members and guests.

Members staying at the RMC will benefit from a 10% reduction on rack rate for their accommodation costs. The ‘Semi-Formal Dinner’ is open to ALL Members and guests of the Club, whether staying in the RMC or not.

In more detail: The Unveiling

This major event will take place at St Ann’s Church – spiritual home of the Royal Navy – on Friday 16 June 2023, commencing at 1100. Members may bring guests: all are welcome.

You should enter via Victory Gate at 1000-1030. ALL attendees MUST provide personal ID data on the following form, and MUST bring photo ID to gain access.

The dedicatory church service, with choir and organ, will be attended by dignitaries including (as official representative of HM King Charles III) Nigel Atkinson, Esq, the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire; the Bishop of Portsmouth; the Chaplain of the Fleet; the Revd Phill Amey, incumbent of St Ann’s; and our own Chaplain, the Revd Lynda Sebbage.

Other official guests will be present, and this is our warm invitation to you, as a Member of The 1805 Club, to take part in a memorable and historic occasion.

The Service and Unveiling will be followed by a Reception with a light lunch in Admiralty House, the official home of the Second Sea Lord, opposite St Ann’s Church. For this element of the dual event, the charge to Members and their guests is the same (£25.00 pp), to cover the Club’s costs.

In more detail: the Semi-Formal Dinner

The three-course SFD will take place in the Nelson Lounge of the Royal Maritime Club, on Friday 16 June 2023, commencing at 1900.

The menu is attached, with three choices being offered for each course, including vegetarian and vegan options. Please tick your choices on the booking form. IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS, please specify. A half-bottle of RMC House wine is included for each person dining: please specify your choice. Again, for this element of the dual event, the charge is the same (£47.00 pp) for Members and their guests.

Payment

Please note that FULL PAYMENT IN ADVANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL THE ELEMENTS YOU AND YOUR GUESTS WISH TO ATTEND. We have occasionally suffered financial loss when Members have said they will attend, and have been catered for, and then have failed to attend.

Full Joining Instructions will be sent to all Members and guests who have successfully applied to attend any (or better, all!) of the elements of this special dual event.

Confirmation of your successful application will be given once payment has been confirmed.
